Introduction

Valvular heart disease (VHD) is a widespread disease that occurs in one or more of the four valves of the heart. The primary indications for VHD are valvular stenosis (narrowing of the heart valve) or valvular regurgitation (blood leaking from the heart valves). VHD can cause serious symptoms such as angina, shortness of breath, fatigue, heart palpitations and heart murmur. When medication can no longer treat a damaged or diseased valve, it must be surgically repaired or replaced by an artificial heart valve.

Description

This device is a transcatheter platform designed to perform repair and replacement of the mitral valve, one of two valves most affected by VHD. The device is designed to enhance tactile feedback to the cardiologist, making it easier to use than currently available solutions.

Flexible, catheter-based design enhances tactile feedback, making it more familiar and easier to use for the cardiologist.

Applications

The concept can be developed into a competitive mitral valve and replacement platform.
